It’s tough to improve on the Samsung NC10. Even a year after its release, there is very little on the Netbook market that beats it.
BUT – if you’re really fussy – and you’re desperate to find a way to improve it – we suggest powering it up with a 9-Cell battery.
One of the best things about the Samsung NC10 is that – though it’s tiny and you can take it anywhere – it also works really well as a home PC.
The screen is tiny (around 10 inches), but Samsung have cleverly allowed it to link to most standard monitors.

Thank god they didn’t include a CD drive with the NC10: You’d be dragging an extra 600g around everywhere with you, just for the 1 time every few weeks you need it.

Samsung has finally released the NC10 colour every man, woman and child has been waiting for: Hot Pink.
OK, so it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but it actually look great and works. The colour isn’t the wishy-washy pink of some other laptops, the slick top looks very expensive (like a £2-grand sony!) and the spec is identical to the other colours.
Best of all is pricing. Whereas most merchants priced the other colours a little higher at launch, Dabs are offering a decent price and Amazon is currently taking orders at a ridiculously low price.

A Taiwanese Ebay seller is now offering a touchscreen kit for the Samsung NC10. At £65 GBP (around $100) it’s not hugely expensive and looks quite well built.
The kit is solderless and looks surprisingly straightforward. There are no ‘how to’ videos available yet, but the instructions are available in PDF format .
It’s being reported around the web that Samsung will release the Samsung NC20 in February 2009. So – what will it look like? What are the specs? Is it worth the wait?

Why would they do this?
The big difference here is the screen.
The rumoured specification isn’t a huge leap ahead of the NC10: Just a larger 12″ screen and different processor. The reason Samsung would ditch the ‘Intel Atom’ for the Via processor is that Intel have limited the atom to work up to a 10″ screen only. VIA’s 1.3GHz processor offers similar performance to the Atom, at a cheaper cost, and it will work fine with a 10″ screen.
Should You Wait?
If you are looking for a laptop with a 12″ screen, this will definitely be worth the wait. If – on the other hand – you are looking for something as light and portable as possible, with long battery life, the Samsung NC10 is still the way to go.

There’s a decent range of reviews of the Samsung NC10 around the web. I’ve gathered together 10 of those here. I actually trawled through a few dozen to gather these and, across the whole lot, I found only a single review that didn’t recommend buying the NC10. Even that review was based on an early prototype of the machine.
You can tell most of these reveiwers have actually had the machine & given it a good test. A few are in-depth with several pages of benchmarks, images, videos.
The Samsung NC10’s ultrabright LED screen is amazing for most purposes. But when you’re using it at home to edit photos you may find yourself wanting a larger screen. That’s no problem because the NC10 is one of the few netbooks that makes it easy to attach an external monitor, projector or TV…
