Samsung NC20 – Released February 2009
It’s being reported around the web that Samsung will release the Samsung NC20 in February 2009. So – what will it look like? What are the specs? Is it worth the wait?
Rumoured Specification:
- Display size: 12.1″ (2″ larger than the NC10)
- 1GB of RAM (same as the NC10)
- 160GB hard drive (same as the NC10)
- 1.5kg weight (slightly heavier than the NC10)
- Via Nano 1.3GHz u2250/u2350 processor (the NC10 uses an Intel Atom 1.6GHz)
Why would they do this?
The big difference here is the screen.
The rumoured specification isn’t a huge leap ahead of the NC10: Just a larger 12″ screen and different processor. The reason Samsung would ditch the ‘Intel Atom’ for the Via processor is that Intel have limited the atom to work up to a 10″ screen only. VIA’s 1.3GHz processor offers similar performance to the Atom, at a cheaper cost, and it will work fine with a 10″ screen.
Should You Wait?
If you are looking for a laptop with a 12″ screen, this will definitely be worth the wait. If – on the other hand – you are looking for something as light and portable as possible, with long battery life, the Samsung NC10 is still the way to go.
