How To Use Your NC10 With An External Monitor

The Samsung NC10’s ultrabright LED screen is amazing for most purposes. But when you’re using it at home to edit photos you may find yourself wanting a larger screen. That’s no problem because the NC10 is one of the few netbooks that makes it easy to attach an external monitor, projector or TV…

The NC10 on QVC

The German blog EEE PC News spotted the Samsung NC10 on QVC in the UK.

The NC10 was QVC’s ‘deal of the day’ and – while I’m not really a QVC fan – I have to say they did a good job of reviewing it and seem to know what they’re talking about. One thing they mentioned was a few of the awards the NC10 has picked up:

  • What Laptop Gold Award
  • Sunday Times 5 Star Rated
  • T3 5 Star Rated
  • Trusted Reviews Best Notebook Award

Can You Play Games on the NC10?

A question that comes up often about the Samsung NC10 is “is it powerful enough to play games?”

Well the answer is “it depends what you’re playing”!

If you’re looking for a full-time gaming machine to play WOW on, then you should probably look for something more powerful… BUT if you’re looking for something that can handle most games and can fit in your bag, then the Samsung NC10 can probably handle what you need.

To prove it, here’s some footage of the NC10 running a high-spec game (Grand Theft Auto: Vice City):

Samsung NC10 Laptop Sleeves

Here’s a selection of some of the best laptop sleeves for the Samsung NC10. One of the benefits of the netbook is it’s so small you can just throw it in an overnight bag, suitcase or briefcase. It’s worth getting a sleeve to protect it though:

10 Reasons To Buy The Samsung NC10

Of all the netbooks that have come out to date, the Samsung NC10 is quite clearly the best. Samsung have built it for real mobility, not just another ‘me too’ ultraportable.

BUT – if you’re still not convinced how good this thing is, here’s a run-down of 10 reasons to buy the NC10…

1. The Battery Life

This is the obvious one. At 8 hours (realistically, you can get just under 7 hours). Check out the Samsung NC 10 Battery Life post for more details

2. The Screen

Samsung are well known as one of the best screen makers in the industry. Their panels are so good they’re used by many of their rivals (many Dell monitors use samsung panels). On top of that, the NC10 uses a 10.2″ LED panel. LED panels warm up instantly, they don’t contain mercury (more eco-friendly) and they’re less likely to get screenburn or fade.

The Samsung NC10 Keyboard

Take a look at the Samsung NC10 keyboard from above:

As you can see the Samsung NC10 has 84 full-size keys. This is in contrast to some of the smaller ultraportables. The NC10 also has very nice ergonomics, and it feels like the keyboard has actually been through about rather than an after-thought.

Full-size keyboard might not sound like a big deal, but it really improves the feel of the laptop and will increase your typing speed.

The layout is quite similar to some of the Sony VAIO range (though most of those cost 3 or 4 times as much). Another nice bonus is the comfortably-sized trackpad.

NC10 vs HP Mininote – Size Comparison

Jenn over at pocketables took this nice photo of the Samsung NC10 compared to its nearest HP rival: the HP Mininote:

As you can see, the two are virtually identical in size. The Samsung NC10 wins on screen size though: The HP has a very wide bezel, wasting a lot of space.

Also note the difference in build-quality – even from the photo you can tell the difference.

Samsung NC10 with Mac OS X

What are the chances of getting an Apple 10″ laptop for £300? Maybe in 20 years time!

Well it is actually possible. The Samsung NC 10 can be modified to run OS X, as shown in this video:

Amazing performance from this really versatile machine.

Samsung NC10 Running Vista Ultimate

There’s a video up on YouTube of the Samsung NC10 modified to run Vista Ultimate.

The NC10 in question has been modified with an extra gig of RAM, but the results are very impressive nonetheless.

Probably not fast enough performance for heavy duty gaming, but this shows off the power of the NC10.
